Specialisation - Sniper

Discussion in 'Joining Up - Royal Navy Recruiting' started by Apparentlytoomuchcod, Sep 1, 2014.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I want to know if I join the RM as an officer what are my chances of becoming a sniper and if they're good what are the chances of deployment with a sniper cadre, I've decided I've wanted to become a sniper and I realise it is intensely hard to become a sniper and there are limited amounts of info on this topic so any thoughts or info would help a lot thank you
  2. Getting in to the RM's as an officer is a huge accomplishment within itself, the best thing to do is get the ball rolling with that before even thinking of specializations.
  3. Yeah I was thinking that because I know it is some intense training and really hard to work to become an officer but the question was more should I be marine commando or marine commando officer (my fault for not saying) just because this is what I want to do and I don't know which role would be better for this course

You should call your AFCO. Alternatively, @Ninja_Stoker is a qualified careers advisor and if you ask him nicely I'm sure he'll answer your questions!
  7. Thanks I'll probably phone an AFCO first then if I don't get the answer I need then I'll message @Ninja_Stoker
  8. Just by reading your posts on this thread, I can categorically state with all confidence, that you will never ever be an officer in any branch of HM Armed Forces, let alone the Royal Marines.

    Hope this helps.

RM Officers are required to command the battlespace, utilising all available assets to maximum effect.

If an RM Officer is employed peering down a sniper scope, taking single shots, he ain't commanding the "big picture" and is not utilising all assets to maximum effect to win the battle.

RM Officers may undergo some elements of sniper training, they may even have occasion to fire a sniper weapon, they may even have command of designated other ranks who are trained snipers, but there is no such specialisation as an RM Officer sniper.
  10. Thank you helped a lot I've been looking for an answer like that for a while so thank you very much.
  11. Go to boats. Their always looking for snipers on Submarines...;)
  12. Never piss off a 2 deck sniper!

But on a serious note, sitting down face to face with a careers advisor is your best bet, go down the AFCO as soon as you can.
