Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi,

Looking for some advice here, I applied initially to be a marine got a into the selection process and I don't think the Marines is for me. Would the Navy been an option or would they say no thanks due to me changing my mind.

  2. Hello,

You have not said how far into the RM selection process you are, initial inquiry or what? - this could be significant.

If you are now considering the RN instead - Do some homework on the various Branch Options, conditions of service etc etc. ASAP.
Search here and at the Official RN Site

Doubtless an AFCO here, or your own one, will offer you some further advice but DO SOME SOUND HOMEWORK SOONEST.

Unlike Woolies Pick & Mix, its your life & your choice, get that right and a good carrer awaits you.

  3. I have done my RT, Medical, Fitness and Interview. Thanks for your help, I haven't signed anything so hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement

Firstly, I'm not a AFCO bod, Ninja Stoker and Super Mario are. Look up some of Ninjas posts and click on the links on his signature block, they contain a wealth of knowledge ref trades, job descriptions etc.

Unfortunately they probably dont answer your question though. If you've done the medical, fitness etc I'd imagine they'd count towards the Navy because, lets face it the Marines are a part of the Navy so I'd presume they'd still be current. Like I say I'm no recruiter. The Ninja will be along presently to sort you out.

Why the change of heart if you dont mind me asking?
  5. Like the others I'm no expert, but as long as you let them know as soon as there shouldn't be a huge drama. It might also depend on what job you want in the navy in regards to your RT score. Also they'll probably want a decent reason for why you've changed your mind but as long as you have one you should be good. Best of luck

    Spot on.
  7. MCD (mine clearance diver) might be a good option for you if youre into your phys (which I presume you are). Long wait for that though, but its very transferable to civvy street. Worth a thought.
  8. rnrob09: Perhaps if you had addressed them as ROYAL MARINES you might have stood a chance. Just don't go calling the ROYAL NAVY the navy, otherwise you might just as well become a
  9. Thanks for advice guys. My reasoning being I had a reality check. I want serve in the forces as long as I can and have lots of skills when I come out. I am struggling physically to get up to RMitness and I believe I would be better suited to the RN better saying something now than at a latter date.

I would like to be a writer as I am studying a similar subject at College at the moment. I understand the wait is not too bad for that specialisation. I will re-phone tomorrow and see what happens
  10. What working till midday, and closing all afternoon for training!
Blaming everything on a computer system!
And prancing around as camp as a row of pink tents!
