Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Now then, here is a navy trying to fight piracy with NO VESSELS as roughly 500 Somali men prepare to join the front lines in the global campaign to deter piracy off the Horn of Africa coast as newly conscripted members of the modest and, currently, vessel-less Somali Navy. "Piracy has turned the global focus on Somalia, when people have had enough after years of our waters being looted of fish and filled with toxins," said Admiral Farah Omar Ahmed, who has been in post as navy commander since May.

Now maybe nails could run the Somali Marines?

  2. Is there a link?

  3. Stand By for Milord Harrison to aquire a new title, Air Comode (Sic) of the Somali Coastal Command
    Roofs

  4. Maybe some of the international shipping companies should club together and buy them a couple of second hand patrol boats. Bound to be a few knocking about which would sell at a very reduced price and would probably work out infinately cheaper than the costs of international piracy prevention / ransom payments.

  6. The fledgling Somali Navy has many concerns, i.e. one of these is the huge disparity in the average wage of a pirate compared to that of the matelots.. Concern is due when considering the possibility of existing SN personnel 'jumping-ship' as t'were to partake in the high-life of the pirates.

Compare the cost of paying a ransom with that of acquiring a few patrol boats and possibly even a basic frig on the cheap..

There would be huge ramifications in having an adequate somailian Navy considering that the Somali pirates have had little to no opposition thus far.. perhaps a decreased frequency with an increased ferocity? Could definitely be a mixed blessing.

  7. How well trained are they? Can they even manage a frigate?
