Just finished reading Six Frigates by Ian W. Toll (Published by Penguin) How Piracy, War and British Supremacy at Sea gave Birth to the World's Most Powerful Navy. An excellent read about the fledgling USN's struggles with the Barbary Powers, the Royal Navy and needless to say, the short sighted parsimony of various politicians! Some things never change do they? The books well researched and detailed, but also immensely readable. It was particularly interesting to read about naval heros from the other side of the pond, who were every bit as charismatic and daring-do as our own salts from that era.
