I knew you lot are all retired, but until now, and realising that you all speak Latin, had had not realised how long you had all been out!

 :)
Speaking Latin is long gone and irrelevant. But understanding the beneficial implications of Latin insofar as the English language is concerned is vital.

Sigh.... he was doing SO well too. Actually provided a couple of semi-decent dits before the meds ran out.
Well! thank you. I rather think it was damning with faint praise. If we're so dull why don't you enlighten it with your wit and wisdom?

Naval officers have long been held to ridicule - by some/most aft of the paint locker.
The title of this thread is interesting, Sic Semper Tyrannis being the motto of Virginia, USA:
The Seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia is the official seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a U.S. state... The standing allegorical female figure of virtue is shown having vanquished tyranny, symbolized by a fallen king at her feet. She has an exposed breast in the manner of classical depictions of Amazons, making this the only state flag in the U.S. depicting a form of nudity. The motto, "Sic semper tyrannis," means "Thus always to tyrants." (From Wikipedia)

Virginia, on the other hand, is girl's name is of Latin origin meaning "maiden"
