Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. On another thread I mentioned the reason I thought deployments weren't as long as those of yore was because of the demise of pusser's bases abroad which got me thinking of how many bases shutdown during my time in. I came up with these, any more to add? I was in from 1973 to 2007.
    St Angelo,
    Royal Arthur,
    St Vincent ,
Thunderer, Any others to add, I'm sure I've missed some woo bases and I've not included RNR.Excuse the layout, the works 'puter won't let me do spaces or lists for some reason.

  12. Does (did) Haslar count as a base?
  13. Haslar would count so Stonehouse would as well.

Caledonia is still open I think. The up north PRNC is based there.
  15. Caledonia is indeed still open, but it is now longer HMS, now MoD, to reflect a move towards being more tri-service. Place is virtually deserted most of the time though. Used for RNAC if nothing else.

  16. So we can add Caledonia to the list if it's no longer HMS.
  17. Rook at Gibraltar ? Fulmar became RAF, even Victory changed names I think.
  18. Rooke is still going, Vicky Barracks became Nelson but HMS Victory is still in commish.
  19. They all have to wash now, somebody put showers on the nucs
