Ship's Flights

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anyone know how the helicopter type that embarks on a ship is decided? Or is there a specific rule? eg. Lynx for gulf deployments and merlin for the Caribbean or merlin for frigates and lynx for destroyers.

Sorry it seems a strange, random somewhat pointless question - I'm just curious!

  2. There is, but it's complex, and I don't know enough detail to ensure I don't drop a bollock!
  3. Atg, gone on have a go, I am sitting ready for the story :)
  4. It's also open to an possible OPSEC faff!
  5. And fleets within fleets, and aircraft transition, and, and, and....
  6. Go on! Please! I'd like to hear what you think it is - even if it's not 100% correct.
  7. Nope - as pointed out by MLP, there are OPSEC considerations, and I don't know where the vital ground is.
  8. What's OPSEC? Sorry I'm relatively new.
  9. Operational security. Secrets for want of a better word.
  10. Be aware most frigates have an Apache in kit form just in case!
