  1. hy guys, having second toughts on WS,
i spoke to a WS, last weekend, went And stayed on HMS.Bristol with Cadets, and there was a WS aboard.
i was talking to him about the branch, and he said that is the worst career he has choosen, and that he advised me not to go into that job, as there is no "warfare" wih ships, and all he ends up doing day to day is Painting and chipping.( not that im scared of hard work )
so what job in the royal navy gives you alot of time at sea, and also a decient career.
Also would being a WS on Subs be better? as i have been thinking about becoming a submariner.
    cheers everyone

  2. Don't ever base your decisions on someone else's experience!

It's not all painting and chipping. Unless I've been very lucky and spent more time in the Ops Room than painting and chipping.

However you do need to choose something you are going to enjoy but asking everyone else what they think of their job or their opinions on other jobs isn't going to help at all.

  3. Every job has its ups and downs.

  4. Sorry
You deal with above water dont you tommo?
How do they stream you? and why is ET so favoured?

  5. I wasn't streamed cos originally I joined as an AW before they merged. However I think and I could be wrong though you'll be trained in AW, UW & EW. I've been told can put in your preference as you head towards Leading Hand and then go on to Leading Seaman AWW, AWT, UW or EW. But don't quote me on that.

Why does people wanna go ET I can't say. I loved WE when I was an OM but I also loved being a Dabber also. I suppose because it's technical or mechanical they no doubt will get excited by the thought of it. But they too have their downsides to the job.

Warfarethingytobe. Don't listen to other people. The bloke you spoke to was more than likely a knacker who hates what he does. What if someone tells you not to drink loads or shag brasses? Make a decision and stick to it. If you constantly listen to other people you'll never do anything. My misses told me that.

  8. The bloke probably ends up painting and chipping all day because he is too lazy/useless to do anything else or his supervisors want to keep him out of the way because he moans all day. Do not listen to people who's first opinion of a trade is a complaint.
