Search engine results - don't look away, you can help

#1
Please have a quick think - what other web sites do you use, do they have a link submission system, or do you know the owner? Do you have a user on another forum where you could add a link to your signature?

Probably the answer to one of those is yes; if so please help this site grow by:

1) Submit a link to another site (in return you can do that on RR here: http://www.navy-net.co.uk/cpgn2/Web_Links.html), or contact the webmaster on our behalf and ask for a link.

2) Add a link to anywhere you can, legitimately without spamming or using 'link farms'. As I mentioned above this could be on a user signature on another forum site, blog comments, anywhere.

3) I've done wikipedia in English, German and Spanish, but if you speak another language please choose the relevant wiki from www.wikipedia.com and add a link in the external link section at the end of the 'Royal Navy' and 'Royal Marines' pages

The link we need is:

1. Text:

"The Navy Net - Rum Ration", Link: "http://www.navy-net.co.uk"

and / or

"The Marines Net - Rum Ration", Link: "http://marines-net.co.uk"

2. Raw code in an HTML page:

Code:
[url="http://www.navy-net.co.uk"]The Navy Net, RumRation[/url]

and/or

[url="http://www.marines-net.co.uk"]The Marines Net, RumRation[/url]
3. Wikipedia code:

Code:
 [[url]http://www.navy-net.co.uk[/url] The British Royal Navy Net - Rum Ration]
 and / or
[[url]http://www.marines-net.co.uk[/url] The British Royal Marines Net - Rum Ration]
(add British and Royal as appropriate)

Thanks - if you can do one or more of these I would be very grateful. At the moment we fork out £150 a month on Gioogle advertising and we should get this for free by being at the top of the search results.

I appreciate your enthusiasm to promote Rum Ration, but the other sites I use are not what you would call "Armed Forces friendly"... :oops:

But I do often talk about RR and I promote the site verbally amongst my colleagues :thumright:

The more links you have the bigger the hit you have with goggle apparantly, I'll have a word with my web guru (I know fcuk all about 'puters) He has one of the oldest websites on the net, and loads of links. :thumright:

Had a link, with a cautionary warning, to Rum Ration from my web site since early last year, and I always promote RR verbally.

I'm not sure about this next bit and it could be a cyberspace myth, but I understand that if you have a Guest Book on your site that allows people to log their comments, email address, and a link to their web site, then you increase the nimber of links to your site.

Thanks to all who've replied to this - of course verbal recommendations are also good. Probably better in many ways.

Thanks Jerry. I think the gustbook idea is just to get more content. All content is good for search engines and with something like that (and this forum!) your guests are helping you with that. Another big factor though is people linking in to you (apparently). It's used as a measure of how popular the site is.
