Seaman Specialist.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hey all,

Will be applying for the RN shortly and I want to be a Seaman Specialist. So I was just wondering what is the waiting time like for this job? I've heard its up to 3 years, is that true? Any info is much appreciated.

  2. Cam,

Get down to your local Careers Office and speak to them. Go smart and have your questions written down so you don't leave short of answers. The Careers Office guys are there to help and will offer guidance on possible future careers in the RN. This will also show that you are interested in your future and proactive enough to get off your backside and do some investigation, not just rely on a forum!

  3. Welcome to Rum Ration, Cam.

Do you know where your nearest Royal Navy Careers Advisors are? If you can say roughly where you live, we can give you the address of the nearest office.

By the way, what appeals to you about Seaman Specialist in particular?

Sea Spec is a long, long, long, long, long wait unfortunately - it's worth calling into your AFCO to look at viable alternatives if you aim to join the RN within the next half decade or so.
  5. It is a long long wait despite being desperate for people in the branch.
  6. A killick level maybe!! Seems to be alot of AB's around.
  7. Really not what I've heard. Also most (pretty much all of them) of those on the ship I'm on have handed their notice in. And if they not looking at making any redundant at any level the branch can't be that full at AB level
  8. Deffinately not full at AB level, but there must be enough, otherwise the wait would not be that long. We are currently (or last time I heard) about 47% short at LH level, hence alot of lads/lasses are been pushed for LH from AB1. On Illustrious (in 08) out of 18 ABs, 9 put their chit in. They were soon replaced. Ive also heard rumours and I say again rumours AB1 Specs may be included in either the next or last redundancy offer as we are overborne with AB1s that are showing no sign or interest in getting promoted.
  9. Completely the different impression given on board our messenger of death
  10. Wots a Seaman Specialist? I was a Killick seaman QA2. I havent a clue wot or who is on the lower deck nower days(Is lower deck PC?)
