  1. Hi guys, i spoke to my local afco today about joining up as a seaman specialist. This would be my first choice, but was told there could be an 18 month waiting list for the ss role. Can anyone shed any light on the waiting time for seaman specialist roles please? ... btw my 2nd choice is warfare specialist

  2. Eh! You just said that it was 18 months. :angry1:

  3. Yeah, but what do they know? I reckon it's about 18 months.

  4. The AFCO won't lie to you. If it is the job you want then it is worth waiting for.
I have just had a 16 month wait for MA SM.

It all comes down to you at the end of the day, take the trade you want, and wait however long you have to.

  5. ok, i didnt think the guy was lying to me btw i was just trying to see if anyone had any other info on the waiting time. I was 60-40 in favour of seaman specialist but if it means a wasted year and a half i may as well go for the warfare specialist role, cheers though guys

  6. It's not wasted if you get the job you really want.

  7. I reckon that the waiting time is one and a half years, but, what the fukc do I know.

  8. Nothing more than rik rold you

  9. cheers for the help guys, sorry to say 'wasted' time, i forgot to mention that i hit age 30 today so a year and a half seems longer to me :) ...i was up for either seaman spec or warfare spec anyway so i'll be happy with either :)

The only reason it takes so long to get into the RN is because we only select the best - so live happy in the knowledge that you are "speshul"! And happy feckin' birthday... :1:

  11. lol thanks mate

  12. i dont suppose anyone knows on the off chance if there is a waiting period for naval airman aircraft handler?

...I could do three Op TAURUS deployments in that time!

  15. the seaman spec waiting times,
is it counted from basic training completion
    or after phase 2?

The waiting times quoted refer to the start point at which an applicant passes the recruiting test, to their eventual entry date when they begin phase one basic training.

The times quoted assume that all elements of selection are completed immediately without delays for test fails, interview fails, medical queries, PJFT fails or security clearance delays.

  17. I've just done the 'dreaded' 18 month wait for SS which actually went surprisingly fast.

Seaman Specialist is now nearer 20 months wait I believe for applicants that apply now.

  19. Crikey, I bet that puts a lot of people off joining this branch. Why so long?

  20. rikbones: Its actually a 36 month waiting period for sure! but do not worry just keep fit for all this time period over the next 3 years ;)
