Seaman Specialist - commando trained?

#2
Usually when they leave and become Royal Marine.

However like all branches if they require to do the AAC then yes. If they worked with 148 Battery for instance.

Otherwise on a general note unlikely

Those wishing to become a Commando are advised the only assured route is by joining as a Royal Marine.

As the Royal Marines have their own specialisation (LC: Landing Craft) who are trained small boat coxwains (RYA qualified) and normally employed within the Assault Squadrons, it's difficult to envisage what requirement there is for a Seaman Specialist within 3 Commando Brigade on a regular basis (draft) or in what volume or capacity they may be required.

Nowadays, the "nice to have" courses are few and far between and tend to be confined to those who need the qualification in the course of their duties.

If you're a volunteer for SFSG or SF, then your average matelot would be well advised undergoing a justified AACC as Jack is hardly renowned for fieldcraft skills and would otherwise be at a severe disadvantage.

Can a Seaman Specialist become commando trained?
Have you considered the STC Branch? There's a thread all about them on RR somewhere...

I'm sure Specs can become trained killers/knot tiers. Many here will remember Sandy J****** ("Buffer Two Zero") who had many interest dits to tell about his overseas and undercover exploits...

ALL seaman specialists are commando trained. They are frequently observed (after a few sherberts) wandering around the ship starkers:tongue10:
