SC Clearance and PRNC

Discussion in 'Joining Up - Royal Navy Recruiting' started by DuraCell, Oct 28, 2013.

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just a quick one, my SC Clearance is still in progress. Stating that I have a questionnaire to complete. Any idea what this is or is it just some final paperwork? Also looking to complete my PJFT in the next two-three weeks, then it's the waiting game. I know the wait for Seaman Specialist is long (18months) after RT. Can anyone confirm the length of period between PRNC and intake?

    Much appreciated.

  2. The questionnaire is standard precdure to joining up. As I rember you do it online at least I seem to rember my kid hunched over the pc doing it at some point.

  3. Did you fill in a medical questionnaire before your eye test/medical might be that

Should be a link on the page after you've logged in to start the questionnaire.

Generally security clearance is initiated after the applicant has passed the Recruiting Test, Interview, Medical and PJFT.

The individual may well receive guidance notes from the AFCO, but until there's an e-mail from National Security Vetting (NSV), it cannot be initiated as an account has not yet been created.

Once the initiation email is received from NSV, the account has to be created by following the link, entering your full name (case sensitive), date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy), town of birth and country of birth (usually UK, if British). Once the account is activated, complete the full online questionnaire, save it & submit.

Don't try to do it on a mobile or tablet, the easiest way is using Internet Exploer on a PC as it doesn't format properly on Chrome, IOS, Safari, Android, Firefox, etc.

If in doubt, call your AFCO.

  8. Thanks all, will have to verify with my CA. I completed my online questionnaire, this is referring to something different. Looks like this: 935358_323159651147212_291239002_n.jpg

You've just got to sit tight until "in progress" changes to "completed".

You've completed your SC as it confirms at the bottom. The "in progress" refers to the NSV carrying out their checks to give you SC. You have to wait for it to change to " Completed".

Edit. Now I look like I'm repeating myself as the second picture has disappeared... Cheers.

Have to admit, NSV have the world's most incomprehensible website and truly crap coherency, coupled with seriously pooh software. The screenshot indicates SC is in progress. If there is a requirement to fill out any additional questionnaires (such as a financial one), a hard copy form will be sent. I suspect, as ever, the website is just being ambiguous and despite all the nonsensical guff on the page, your SC is just in progress.

I do sympathise with the confusion - I recently had to renew my SC and genuinely think NSV need a managerial kick ***********.

Does having clearance already hamper the process even more NS?

For some bizarre reason, a "re-vet" takes longer, but gawd only knows why, one can only assume they hope you're at least ten years older than last time and therefore more likely to die before they feel the need to extract a digit.

  16. Apologies for the thread drift....

When I joined Big And Expensive it took literally months for SC to come through, despite having served for 23 years and having been PVd/DVd. Bizarre.

SC is a huge revenue generator & spookily enough, the company that processes it, invents the length of validity.

It actually "expires" within a month of leaving the service & remains valid ten years whilst serving, but only twelve months whilst waiting to join. Figure that one!

Cost? I believe they charge about £2.5k for each SC. .
