I wonder if Putin is a student of history, Russia didn't do too well against Finland in the Winter War (1939 - 1940 winter in case you've never heard of it).

I still have the impression he's trying to resurrect the 'good old days' of the USSR. Which he doesn't believe has gone.
During the Cold War days, the Red Army Border guards numbers more than the whole of the UK armed forces. And they were simply protecting their border from Jonny Foreigner!!!!!!
