Hi all, I’m new so I’m not sure if this is where a thread like this would go but oh well. I’m currently in sixth form and considering doing a Royal Navy or army apprenticeship after my a levels.
I’m not sure which to go for though, I want to be involved in warfare regardless but that’s all I know. I’ve read that people have much more enjoyed their time in the navy rather than the army. I know this forum will obviously lean towards the navy but I would appreciate fair points for both.
Cheers

Navy, every day.
Biased yes - perhaps after 24 years!
But.
I worked alongside the Army for a further 20 years and what I witnessed confirmed I had made the correct career choice.
End of the day, the decision will be yours it's all about personal likes!

I’ve heard that people have treated poorly in the army, like ordered around more, treated more like children. My grandad was in the navy so it was my first choice but I wanted to consider the army as well.

I am doing law, business and geography at a level and sit them 2021

I wonder whether you would still be in time to ask about the Royal Navy's A Level scholarships.

Do you live in or near a large city which has an AFCO with RN Careers Advisors?

It sounds as though you might like this role.

Do you want to go to war with 3 meals a day, a warm bed and beer available or go to war living in a hole in the ground, food when you can get it, insects in your sleeping bag and nasty people trying all different ways of killing you?

Admittedly you can get shot at in the Navy as well but the creature comforts are better when in a war zone.

There is one about 45 mins away from me. The sixth form are arranging the navy to come in and talk to me about roles soon which is good

How so? What did you witness that confirmed you made the right career choice?

Bullying, and as you said soldiers treated like children. Lies from senior ranks blaming recruits and privates for their pranks that went wrong. Boredom at the junior ranks.
One particular incident sthat has stuck in my mind. A soldier who had committed some misdemeanour was marched onto the parade ground by several members of the provo, military provost staff, who then proceeded to simultaneously shout different orders tot he soldier and when he obviously got the orders wrong shouted orders even louder!!! The young squaddie was quiet obviously confused and distressed by it. I happened to pass an officer and commented I was bloody glad I joined the senior service!! He must have observed the scene by the time I returned from my errand the squaddie and his four escorts had departed the parade square. That was just one of many such observations.
The term, I am not a name I am a number fits!!!
I found the navy, in my case, always treated me as an adult. I was never bullied and punishments were not demeaning!!

When was that though? I'm not going to say that such things are no longer the case, but the Army has been working on putting a stop to this sort of thing as it is counter-productive.
