Good afternoon all,

I am currently looking for current or recent Submariners to provide advice and guidance on the operability of systems aboard the Astute Class Submarine.

The roles are potentially paying £40,000+ (depending on experience)

Principal Engineer (Submarine Operability) – 00025135 – Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

Due to increased workload an opportunity has arisen for 2 skilled Principal Engineer (Submarine Operability) to join a busy Operability team based in BAE Systems’ Barrow-in-Furness site. This role will primarily be responsible for offering support and guidance to other members of the successor engineering function.

As a Principal Engineer (Submarine Operability) your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Ensuring attendance at or be suitably represented at all related reviews and major area integration reviews to ensure design meets the functional objectives and requirements relating to your primary role.
  • Harnessing the Operability Group resources to undertake the activities that will supply the Operability acceptance evidence deliverables (design reviews, system operability assessments, operability reports)
  • Undertaking Ships System/Propulsion System/Power Generation and Distribution design reviews.
  • Ensuring that effective measures are taken to support timely identification and rapid closure of Operability issues emerging from all product stages that relate to your primary role.
  • Complex report writing using a structured presentation of information, reviewing other reports and advising the author on improvements.
  • Producing policy documents when required within your area of responsibility.
  • Providing Submarine Subject Matter Expertise to Product Safety activities i.e. HAZIDs, HAZOPs, SWIFTs, Fire Risk Assessments, ALARP Optioneering workshops etc.
  • Supporting the ship safety team in the review of safety documentation in support of the Ship Safety Case.
  • Providing specialist support related to your primary role as requested by the OPDOC Production Authority in support of OPDOC derivation and verification.

As a Principal Engineer (Submarine Operability) you must have the following skills/experience:

  • Current or ex-Submarine Senior Rate
  • Recent operational experience is required
  • Can be from any discipline on board the submarine
  • Experience of engineering safety cases
  • Experience of dealing with external suppliers of the Royal Navy

As a Principal Engineer (Submarine Operability) you will ideally have the following skills/experience:

  • Damage Control experience
  • Ships System experience

Grade: S5
Salary: £40,000 (dependant on experience)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria
