Royal Marine officer specialisations

Hi, I'm currently studying a degree and will be joining the royal marines as an officer when i complete this. I'm just wondering if anyone has a list of what marine officers are aloud to specialise in, as all the lists I've seen have not divided between what an officer can specialise in and a regular commando (i know officers are still commandos but you know what i mean).

Many thanks for any replies.

This, Mr Blair, is why you should not have sent every child to university.

Sorry this was written early in the morning after an 11 hour shift and I was also writing part of my essay before-hand so if there were any mistakes in spelling forgive me if I dont take it to heart haha. And im also used to a spell-check programme picking up on lower case I's and changing them so I still wouldnt have picked up on them if im completely honest.

And ofcourse the AIB have never even heard of me, I mis-spoke earlier when I said "i will be joining" I mean that I will be applying for them and hopefully then joining.

Anyway could anyone please reply the OP if possible. Thanks.

According to the latest (2018) RM Careers publication (available from your AFCO), Direct Entry RM Officer specs have reduced from seven to three. Pilot is no longer one of them.

RM Other Ranks can specialise in the following:

Armoured Support (AS), Armourer (ARM), Assault Engineer (AE), Clerk (C), Combat Intelligence (CI), Driver (D), Drill Instructor (DI), General Duties (GD), Heavy Weapons (Air Defence) (HW(AD), Heavy Weapons (Anti-Tank) (HW(ATK)), Heavy Weapons (Mortars) (HW(MOR)), Landing Craft (LC), Metalsmith (MESM), Mountain Leader (ML), Physical Training Instructor (PTI), Platoon Weapons (Machine Gunner) (PW(MG)), Platoon Weapons (Sniper) (PW(S)), Royal Marines Aircrewman (RMAC), Royal Marines Communications Technician (RMCT), Royal Marines Information Systems (RMIS), Royal Marines Medical Assistant (RMMA), Royal Marines Police (RMP), Signaller (S), Special Forces Communicator (SFC), Stores Accountant (SA), Telecommunications Technician (TT), Vehicle Mechanic (VM).

Many who aspire to become RM Officers don't realise that they'll be Troop Commanders in their first year or two. Thereafter their career path and role differs a fair bit from Other Ranks.

Thanks for your reply, I never realised that RM Officers had such a short list of specs. I will contact my AFCO for more details on this. I have to ask would you ever suggest someone to take the commando route rather than the Officer route if that feels like it is more suited to them i.e. myself.
Just everyone around me has said to take the Officer route, mostly from an uneducated view which is why I'd like to ask people who actually know what theyre talking about.

Have a look through this, it puts things into perspective: https://www.royalmarines.uk/threads...-answers-would-be-greatly-appreciated.112245/
