    Yeah, and it has been preparing for sea trials since they cut the first steel in 2002. You will notice that they give no date for commencement of sea trials, and if we get confirmation from a Barrow native I am sure that we will find out that the current sailing date is once again a large slice of pie in the sky. The capabilities this submarine offers are pretty bloody good, it is just a pity that the Govt (and in this case the Lab and Tory ones combined) didnt order a boat for so long after VENG sailed that the yard forgot how to build boats.

    Snorko actually Astute was ordered on 17th March 1997. The first steel was cut in November 1999 and the "keel laying ceremony" took place on 31st January 2001. Things move very quickly in UK Defence procurement and even quicker in the Big And Expensive build process don't they?
