Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

  1. On Wed 11 Jun, the RNRL women took part in the annual Army Medical Services 9’s competition which took place at Fort Blockhouse in Gosport.

Their 1st game was against Army 4GS and after a tight first half the RN edged into the break with a slight 4-0 lead. The Army side flew at the Navy after the break and only some strong defending particularly from our young winger AB Atwood (playing only her second game) prevented the Army from taking control. The game ended with a narrow victory for the Navy 8-4, with both tries coming from LET Graham.

After a 20 min break the Navy were back in action this time against 5GS, another Army side, and favourites for the competition. The Navy started strongly and went ahead with a try from LET Graham but the Army hit back scored soon after and managed to convert it to take a 4-6 halftime lead. The second half started much the same as the first with the Navy taking an early lead with a try scored by AB Wilson but this time the Navy held on to win 8-6.

The final was between the Navy and 5GS, who after being defeated by the Navy previously were looking to take revenge, and within 30 seconds of the kick off the Army took the lead with a well placed kick causing problems in the Navy defence allowing the Army side to force the ball over the line for a try. The Navy side rallied back with two quick tries scored by AB Davies to take an 8-6 lead into the half time interval. The second half was dominated by the Navy with 3 unanswered tries being scored, 2 by AB Davies and 1 by LET Graham. The final score of 20-6 did not flatter a Navy side that played with real grit and determination.

Let Graham went up to collect the winners trophy and AB Jodie Davies was deservedly awarded the player of the tournament award.
