Lantern Swinger

Lt Commander Paul Bowness RN, Executive Officer of HMS Eaglet was present as were Paul Hedgecock and some of Eaglet's Old & Bold and their standard was paraded. The Commander had a great send off with the large church of St James bursting at the seams with family, mourners ,national, county and local dignitaries paying their respects. The military presence at this memorial service following the private funeral was provided by RASM, Commander S/M and a small party of serving submariners from HMS/M Astute, with SA standards from all over the UK being paraded. The fifty meter path from the gate to church door was lined with submariners past and present as guard of honour for his widow and family who were led into the church by a Pipe Major of the Liverpool Scottish playing a lament. The Last Post and Reveille was played by a bugler from the LSRA. It was a most fitting tribute to a great man who will be sadly missed. Resurgam.

Red Sailor
RIP. A great man, a remarkable mission and exemplary manner. Good to see that honour and respect are alive in one corner of the country.
