Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Wanted to double check what I have been told is correct. ..

Is it possible to join as a RNR Officer in a specific job role, or do you just apply as an officer and get selected on your merit?
  2. Unless you are a medic, you will join as an Officer Cadet, and then go through "initial Officer training" and then specialise
  3. Cheers, do you get to then choose what you specialise in ?
  4. Yes, you have to make a choice just before you take fleet board. You might not get your first choice, but most people do.
  5. It normally works quite well, as the initial training takes a couple of years or so, and during that time you can chat to Orrifficers from various specs, and even attend some of their training weekends, thus, when you get to Fleetboard, you should have a good idea what you want to request. Currently it's pretty unlikely that a spec will be over borne and "full"
