RNR Officer

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anyone have any advice re application/selection to join the RNR as an officer? What branches are the most rewarding from an officer point of view?
I'd like to get involved in intel further down the line but am interested in general seamanship - if anyone has any hints/tips they'd be welcomed
  2. Don't fret unduly about choosing a branch yet - if you go DE, you'll spend your first 18-24 months learning the basics to get past Fleet Board and only then will you have to go firm on a branch. Which gives you the chance to see which branches might suit you (and to learn which are in need of new entrants and which have a sufficiency of JOs already).

Just make sure there are at least a couple of areas where you think you'd be useful, and get stuck in.
  3. Personally I'd say have a look at the branches, work out what you're most likely to be interested in and then establish whether their requirement is predominantly for officers or ratings. There is no point joining as an officer if the job you're interested in doesn't want officers.
