RNR - Eye Sight Standards

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anyone tell me how far I have to see without my glasses on - i.e. how far down the eye chart I have to read - to pass the eye test?

I have already seen the document detailing about VA1, VA2 and VA3 standards, however this doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.

Also, is it permittable to squint, etc?

    Many thanks.
  2. Eyesight standards are the same as regular RN - if you do a search on the siteNinja_Stoker (resident AFCO extraordinaire) has posted the full details a number of times, together with explnatory notes...

Happy hunting and best of luck

  3. Thanks F_J!

I think I've found the answer I was looking for anyway, after some research on the Snellen scale:

To achieve a visual acuity of 6/60 [I believe] all you have to do is read the top letter on the optician's eye chart. Unless I have got that wrong?
  4. The top letter on the opticians chart is the only thing you need for VA3 (without squinting).
