RNR as an ex regular

Hi guys

I am a former LH and been out for 3.5 years and would love to get back into the matloet world. i currently work in Intel related work civvy side and curious about he process for joining back as a RNR bod

Not much info on the RN web page about how i reintegrate and the thought of being made to do Raleigh again feels a bit stupid tbh as i served 10 years and know how to bullshit to a high standard.

Whats your take on it guys, and before you ask i left before project firefly was made available to me other wise i would have done that to save all this messing around.

Be gentle, i dont have any lube

Hello,
I know a bod on here who was in a similar situation. Common sense prevailed and the individual was not sent back to Raleigh.
I suggest you engage with an AFCO very promptly, and speak to the Whole Ship Co-Ordinator ( a WO or CPO) of the unit you would intend to join. The longer you leave it the smaller the window gets.
Get back to me if you need anything else.
Good luck
BH

As stated, talk to your local unit to get an overview.

AFCO-wise, just submit an online application.

Your AFCO will get in touch, invite you to produce your discharge docs, sign a consent for the release of your med docs & request approval to process. Usually takes about 6 - 8 weeks. They will then probably interview you, medical, PJFT & gain SC. The RNR can attest you after the interview.

I reckon it'd be so muh easier if everyone leaving was simply enrolled into the RNR upon voluntary discharge with the option to opt out. There is a seamless transfer for those yet to physically leave and it is completely hassle-free, just one A4 form (L007) and that's it, done. Everything transfers over and remains valid. Trouble is once you leave, we have to conduct loads of checks for a rejoin and it ain't quick.

Best o'luck.

Stupendous idea @Ninja_Stoker
Far too sensible to ever be adopted!
I do spend hours explaining the idea of joining the RNR to leaving regulars, the issue seems to be that they can't grasp the concept of it's only a few days notice to leave the RNR if you change your mind (mobilisation aside). It's almost as if they think it's another 22 year commitment.

Thanks very much guys

I always knew it would be a long winded affair. I am looking at HMS president as i work in the docklands area so will go down one evening and speak to the guys in person about training requirements and time frames.

I am assuming i need to resit entry tests too then. If so, will that then mean that i have to score very highly to get a shot at officer opportunities or will my previous service trump any RT test results and allow me to prep for AIB as i have gained a first class degree in International Relations since leaving and work in global security management for a blue chip company.

Finally, if i don't get officer then will i at least be able to get my rate back again or will i just be made an AB and told to coil down ropes?

boatsafe.com says:

Faking:

laying a line on deck in a series figure eights so the line will run free without tangling

Flaking:

laying out line on deck in parallel rows.

Don’t confuse with faking.

Any advance on fracking?

Or even flacking?

This is kind of what I think about when flaking is mentioned... :)

If joining with a less than five year break in service, you'd probably join the RNR at the same rate, trained rank, but maybe dip a few increments to reflect the break in service.

The recruit test is for untrained ratings or officers only. Whilst untrained officer applicants must sit the recruit test, they must also meet the basic academic entry requirements regardless of degree held, work experience or former service history

If you do join make sure your prior service gets counted for bounty calculations - it is in the BR somewhere - so you should start on a higher initial bounty year. Fingers crossed President's RSU (new money JSU) are swept up enough to handle that.

President generate a metric shedload of officers each year so should have a good handle on the CW process. It should be relatively straightforward - I think they still have a dedicated CWTO who might be worth asking after to find out how they do things down there.
