Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

"RNAS Yeovilton International Air Day 2014 is pleased to announce the participation of the world’s only airworthy Avro Vulcan B2 - XH558 'The Spirit of Great Britain' in its flying display on Saturday 26 July 2014. Always popular with Air Day supporters the aircraft will also be available to view at close quarters on the ground too."

  4. I've got my ticket, will have to ride 2.5 hrs each way to get there but it will be worth it. Really looking forward to it :)

  5. I had a great day looking at all the different types of aircraft and also seeing lots of RN men and women walking around, only saw a few with "AE" on the arms. Does everyone bugger off home at weekends? ;) I understand the Junglies are based there, do we know what will replace them after 2016? Love the Wildcats too, very agile.

  6. I would say most ratings would be in white shirts therefore no trade badges. Nobody goes home on air day weekend, station duty.

However I got married on VL air day in 98, had to get permission for the day off!!

I believe the junglies are being replaced with the crabs Merlin, after the RN has given them a bloody good dhoby

  7. Will have to be a bloody good dhoby to get light blue out! :p yeah there were loads of white shirts but one or two in work rig with trade badges. I got called ma'am by a sea cadet.. So lovely to interact with a young lad other than to tell him to stop smoking canabis and to go home..!

  8. Oh there was also a Vulcan.. I'd seen one at the Crabs museum in Hendon but Jesus those things are loud!! Everyone literally ran out of the hangars to see what the noise was. Fantastic aircraft..

  9. Would it have been easier just to do Airday?
Now I've heard a lot of reasons for not doing air days but that must be the most drastic:nike:

  10. Surprising how many shipmates wanted an invite (150 miles from VL)

  11. My wife and I had the priveledge of having the Vulcan fly right over our garden here in Surrey a couple of weeks ago during the Farnbourough air show. It was an awesome sight!! Hopefully they will get the money to fly next year

  12. I work for the DA (Design Authority) to the Vulcan and have personally worked on some regulatory bits, however I have never seen it in the flesh or seen it fly

  17. JFH. You really have to see it in the flesh and flying. It's probably the most iconic aircraft ever, after Concorde. It all depends on wether they get the sponsorship on if it will fly after the end of this years shows. Bloody shame if it doesn't
