Current entry into the Warfare Specialist Intelligence WS (INT) specialisation is by Lateral Entry (LE) from all RN branches and to achieve the required numbers a Direct Entry (DE) scheme is to be introduced.

Being in Intelligence means that you work with all disciplines within the Royal Navy and other services to deliver Intelligence to Commanders on operations. Your training will enable you to deliver fused Intelligence products and provide advice on emerging situations and deliver bespoke briefings to senior officers. Providing your Intelligence input will aid in mission success.

Intelligence is critical in supporting warfighting and getting the right information to the right people at the right time so that crucial decisions, that affect lives, can be made. Everything could depend on your speed, skill, accuracy and powers of concentration to keep one step ahead of the enemy

One of the weirdy things about intelligence, apart from the weirdos what do it, is rank doesn't really count for much. The person best experienced is the person doing the brief or taking the lead.

You'll find 35 year old AB SMEs telling people many ranks senior how things are going to happen. Few realise James Bond was only a killick dabber dressed as a Commander.

It's a bit like my AFCO really :)

Some questions..

(based on a T23/T45)
What will be your PoS?
Where will you be for Specials
What flats will you have on board......

These are what grips people daily and should be made a littler clear(er) from the off.
Seeing as an AB, this will be your world, be good if a tiny bit of expectation management is provided at the start/Phase 2.

WS(INT), already exists. The 'off' started a while ago. It's not EW and not CT.

Post #1 refers regarding common sense & being a team player, #6 refers to role.

So far as I'm aware we all have to clean or paint shithouses and bathrooms from time to time because they don't parachute our Mummies or Daddies out to do it for us. I even had to wash my own cup this morning, no-one told me that before I joined either. The swines.

Specials, I'd imagine are determined by geographic location and the requirement to gather intelligence, together with the individual's whole ship commitments.

It's doubtful someone yet to join has a clue what T23/45, PoS, Specials or Flats actually are to be honest.

By way of an example, I didn't even know I was a "Stoker" until after I joined. I thought Stoker was some sort of menial job that the poor people do - turns-out I was right.

The branch won’t have sea billets except on the QE Class CV’s.

Really??!! I just leave mine on my desk and fight a battle of wills with the cleaner until she gives up and washes it or I die of some horrific disease. Of course the fact that I've spent all weekend with a burning fever and wishing I was dead might suggest she's winning.

Cheers, every day's a school day to be honest.

The beauty of this particular specialisation, if anyone asks anything, we can just give an officious sniff, tap the side of the starboard nostril and declare "Secret, innit?" :)

Surprised you AFCOs didn’t all get the Project Blinker Hall Roadshow Presentation. Explains all. It’s on MODNET. Branch developing for next decade or so, but only sea liability the carriers. Lots of battlestaff/RAF Wyton/Northwood type shore drafts going. It’ll be an interesting career.

Have you any more info on what Supplement level the branch is on yet? Sideways entrants are remaining on their source branch pay until this is sorted out, but if you’re recruiting direct entry, I guess you must know the pay?
