Having looked through only the RN sample booklet I sat the RT yesterday and came away with a solid pass. I was hoping to look through some additional materials beforehand but ended up securing a test several weeks earlier than first anticipated (in fact, just 24 hours after handing in my application form) so was unable to do so. I lost a couple of marks in the English part of the paper, which I assumed would likely be the case, but in general was pleasantly surprised. I've no real idea what the required grade/score may have been, but that's somewhat irrelevant if you go in and just do what you can.

If you understand the concepts in the sample paper you should be fine when sitting the real deal. Additional papers/materials of a similar level may help to give a revision boost, but at this stage I didn't feel that there was anything particularly demanding in there.

Eye test carried out the same day and a medical booked in for early next week, then everything starts to get somewhat tougher. Time to get working on my service knowledge, as that's currently my weakest area...

I found the trickiest part of the rt was working quickly- if you had as much time as you needed the questions arent that tricky. I practised using brain training and using the stop watch on my phone to really get confident in working stuff out quickly- and in the actual test i missed out any i wasnt sure of and went back and filled them in if i had time; no point wasting marks on something ya dont know when might be ten you do know afterwards! Good luck to everyone with theirs coming up, try to harness the nerves into a useful tool :p

I thought for one moment you was in this thread trying to get a response from Ninja.
No chance he'll be down the docks tarting himself for free booze. Slut.
I might just write to the war office and tell them about him and check if there's any more news from Ladysmith.

I try not to talk to recruiters Rummers. Last one I spoke to asked me to play noughts and crosses. As soon as I put a cross down, he whipped the paper away to reveal some carbon paper on top of a pink form with the words "Wrecker, his mark". Took me 33 years to get home!!

Hi, I am 15 and have my RT on the 5th of march, I have applied for the sea spec branch? I absolutely suck as maths and mechanical comprehension? I understand they don't give of specific scores to the recruit test? I was wondering whether the pass mark for the seaman specialist branch would be a high or low mark? Also if anyone has any advice on how I can revise or prepare for the recruit test or even just general information or experiance about the sea spec branch let me know! Any help would be appreciated. (Am new go easy on me!):compress:

If you look through the thread ( I think only a page or two back) I made some good posts and a book recommendation about how I prepared, make the most of it it's very rare I contribute something useful to the forum. Work out how much time you have per question each section and practice sticking to it... don't cheat or you aint gonna complete all the questions come test day .

No, it's really basic stuff. You just need to be able to think fast.

Basic but not necessarily easy for all - i only dropped 1 or 2 marks on each section, except the mechanics which I scored 21/30 . .. and I passed A-level physics !

So for my recruit test I've been concentrating on the maths and mechanical comprehension side of things I've been revising long multiplication and division and with fractions aswell, percentages, significant figures and for the mechanical side I've been revising how to wire a plug, leavers, pully systems and electrical circuts is there anything else I should revise or? Are the questions hard? Or is it more the lack of time?
