RN Police. Rating to officer

TechnicPR

Midshipman
Hey all,

Quick question.

Im currently in the process of joining the RN Police (I know, I know)

When I applied, unlike most roles there was only the Royal Navy Police option. Not RN Police Rating and RN Police Officer.

Do officers exist in the RN Police? Can you get a commission when you're already in as a rating? Its not something I want straight away but I would like to become an officer eventually.

I've read up on the upper yardman scheme but not sure if that still exists of if only certain roles are eligible? There doesn't seem to be much info available online about RN Police.

Thanks!

Officers do exist, the present head of the RNP is a Commander. Anyone can attempt to go through as officer.

Probably one of the most important questions you need the answer to is knowing the difference between a hedgehog and an RN Police patrol wagon....o_O

Funny story about Service Police. I was on det in Germany and drinking in the Malcolm Club at Wildenrath. Anyway the drinking went on far too long at the manager couldn't get rid of everyone and the RAF police were called.

Going back a few years earlier I was in a high School in N Wales and one of my class mates had really bandy legs and was know by the nickname Gary Gay Legs :) He joined the RAF Police when I joined the Navy.

Going back to the night in he walks with the rest of Coppers, I shouted out.... Funkin Hell its Gary Gay Legs!!! Obviously he wasn't happy however his fellow coppers thought it was the funniest thing!!! Never bumped into him again, however his RAF career is now marred like his school life :0

There are indeed RN Police 'Officers', as in commissioned members of the RN Police. They are all SUY entrants (whether that will change with the advent of DE RN Police and we'll see UY's I couldn't say).

// Thread drift//

I had a good mate who was a REM and for no particular reason that I know, apart from looking a bit of a thug, was called 'Bovva'.

Some years later I bumped into him and it seems he'd gone SD...
'Hiya Bovva! How's things?'
'Actually, it's Brian now'.

//Carry on//

Part of the promotional process is the ability to charge your own granny, for no other reason than to get your arrest quota.

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - you told him!!

Anyway, this is just one reason why DE Regs are a bad idea - they do not even speak the lingo, let alone know how the RN functions in real life.
