RN Drill Instructors

#1
Whilst at Raleigh I noticed that the RN's drill instructors wear a chain when wearing their Nos 1s and 3s. What's the purpose of this?

Thanks.

On the end of the chain is a whistle which, when blown, signals to the unruly shower, stand still and be quiet.

How interesting. My grandad said the instructors used to whip them with their chains for inattention. :evil:

He was probably pulling my leg. I was sooooo gulible at primary school age! :oops:

The chain is there so that the GI can find his wallet quickly to get the round in..... Hold on that's not right.

It gives them a reason to exist.... 8) :D Anyone remember 'Tick - Tock' at Sultan in the late 60's....that place was his reason to exist....though he did instil a certain dread....must have been the chain & whistle.... 8)

Andy New?
Has a familiar ring to it...could well be....was always an aspect of my MTC at Sultan that was lost on me...everything else was relevant ...other than being exposed to such as him and the like...suppose it gave him a meaning in life.... 8)

The Navy has drill instructors...... :eek:mg:

Do you all sign a secret pact to ignore them?

:worship: :salute: Nice one Bootie. Like it, like it.
Don't knock Matelots "drill." When I went to the Plod training college they had me on the parade ground for two sessions, I was then removed and placed in charge of the record player (in a nice warm room) that was used to play the marching tunes. They wanted feet stamping and things, I had to explain that I could possibly do that as it would start the deck seams :wink:

I was on the Comcen at the bottom of the Mall once for trooping, I was with an Ex marine and we first watched the Royal Navy lot march past, it was not bad I must say, but not the best.
Bit of piss taking from my old mate the ex marine, a few moments later a large column of Royals bimbled past, I have seldom seen such poor marching, I just looked at my mate and nothing was said.
Nothing needed to be said :oops:

So Blobbs, you know nothing :lol:

"And there stands the GI, so tall and so proud,
his voice never made sense but **** was it loud;
And now the old GI is all dead and gone;
they've given him his brains back and christened him POM"
