Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. LT/CDR William O Brien, from Somerset the only Royal Marine to win the Distinguised Flying Medal. ( which is no longer awarded ) has sold the award for a record £137,000
  2. How can he be a Royal with the rank of Lt/Cdr?
  3. After 28 years in the Royal Marines, rising through the ranks to a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, before receiving his commission as an officer and finishing in the Service as a Major, he then spent six years in the Army before retiring to work as a helicopter instructor.

But he maintained his military connections by joining the Royal Naval Reserve Air Branch, where he is assigned as an operations officer with the Commando Helicopter Force.
