  1. hi guys,im a new poster to this site and (as my username suggests!) am very keen on joining the Marines. Im Irish, but have dual citizenship as my dad is english. I had been keen on officer entry as i want to go to uni when i leave school and applying for a commission seemed the natural thing to do. But lately i've been thinking about regular marine selection. Im interested in the recconaissance and sniper troops and im not sure they're careers open to officers. Also id like to be on the frontline if needs be,not looking at the action from an ops room! Is it strange to see guys in the marines with degrees but not as officers? I mean would this cause a problem if i tried for regular marine training? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, adn sorry for the long post! Cheers guys!

Thanks for the replies guys, just one more thing..can officers serve as snipers or in the commando recce troops?(not the BRF or BPT though)..cheers!
  2. It won't be a problem but the AFCO may try and persuade you to join as an officer.

  3. They did this to me. personally i wish i'd stuck to my guns but i'm glad i listened to what they had to say.

Many of the guys join up and serve in the ranks then go for an AIB and go for officer training. The one big drawback in this is you'd have to complete recruit training then after a few years in a Cdo unit you'd go back in the box to complete Officer training, starting from scratch.

It has been done many times in the past, your choice. Best of luck
  5. If you have a degree and think you can you should go for officer it's an extra 10 grand a year!

Whilst 80% of RM Officers are graduates earning 28k, on average each Other Rank recruit troop of 60 has at least two graduates - a recent troop had 19, so it's your call what you join up as.

That said, if you want to start on 13k, & undergo 32 weeks training then later undergo Officer selection & undergo a further 54 weeks training with the threat of losing your job if you fail (no guarantee of being able to revert if it goes pear-shaped) then it's up to the individual if they want to make it harder than necessary.

Check out prmc.co.uk. which is shortly being embedded on the official RM website.

    Good luck.

  9. Yes conversations about Wittgenstein's and Kierkegaard's theories and their relevance to Section Attacks were soon aborted in favour of "Cor, look at the tits on this one in Readers Wives."
Unless Harry B was about and then it was chunder on all night about the meaning of life. :thumright:
