So as I'm reading it ....In a nutshell: Point class ships are NOT classed as RFA even if manned by RN or not?
The beginning of my revision wall.
I find having info on paper up on the wall easier to glance over and remember than if its just on the screen.
Everything on there is from Wikipedia.
Also just so i know that my info is right. Am i correct with 13 ships in 8 classes?
Thanks all...
Aren't you glad I threw that one into the mix? Every day is a school day on this forum. :winkrazz:
A good start to your preps there. Do you have a plan about which career stream you want to go for?
NJS keep an eye out on Navy News for fleet details. Last year there was a large pull out of all RN and RFA vessels and had all the information you are looking for. It was in the September edition, if anyone happens to have a a copy lying around.
The Point class - when on MoD service - are manned by sponsored reservists. This does not change the fact that they are neither RN nor RFA vessels.
The now little used term Merchant Fleet Auxiliary applies quite well, but I wouldn't use it as few will understand. It refers to naval auxiliaries not owned by the state, which is what the Points are. Owned and operated by a private company on charter to the MoD, with crews employed by a private company but who would be activated as Royal Naval Reservists in time of conflict with no change to the status of the vessel.
I know the last post on this was in 2014, but i was wondering if anyone had information on the charter as it started in 2002 and is for 22 years will this be renewed in 2022 or replaced with new MV?
Also are there any plans to replace RFA Diligence?
