Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Im going raleigh on the 8th of may, had my brief the other day and got my kit list im just wondering do i actualy need to take any civvy clothes with me apart from the tracksuit whats already on the list, for like the even when we are in our rooms, thankyou

    No sarcastic comments please :D
  2. If you don't want sarcastic comments I suggest you re-read your post.
  3. if you still there for the china fleet club, i dont think you'll want to go in your No.4's.
  4. Probably the worst thing to ask for on this site, I don't think I've ever seen a post without at least 1 sarcastic comment!
  5. Just turn up bollocky buff, you'll get issued the clothes you need.

(sarcastic enough or must try harder??)
  6. Yiou will be required to dress for dinner.

Tuxedo, preferably white, should help you fit in.

Dont for get to tip the waiter on the way in, to make sure you get a good seat.
  7. Didnt you ask that question at the brief? Anyway good luck. When i went i only took my tracksuit the same as most of my class. You wont need much more then that, you will go out for a meal ( If you get that far, i never ) which everyone went in suits that they came in, or just the trousers and shirt and a tie.

    Good luck.

The words 'red flag' 'and bull' spring to mind. Does the 'Create thread' button flash in bright colours, with arrows and stars shouting CLICK HERE as newbies sign in for the first time? And is the search function invisible until after they've posted for the first time?

  10. I'm just wondering what type of organisation it is that you think you are joining. It is a disciplined military service that wears a uniform. When you are in "your room" with 20+ others you will all be wearing the "rig of the day" which I can assure you will not be civvy's. The kit list is there for a reason and if they wanted to you take other items for when you are in your room, they would have said so.

    Get it? Got it? Good.
  11. Seriously!? You all joined Raleigh wearing suits?

    Yeah! Shell Suits, innit
  13. It was decided a couple of years ago the male new entrants would arrive at Raleigh wearing shirt and tie working on the theory that you wouldn't turn up for your first day at work in civvy street looking like a sack of shit so why do it joining the mob.

    Note this:

"All new recruits are expected to join HMS Raleigh dressed according to the following criteria: Male - To wear shirt with collar attached, tie, trousers (not jeans) and shoes. Female - To wear blouse, trousers or skirt (minimum knee length), and low heeled or flat shoes suitable for a brisk walking pace. Recruits will also be expected to wear smart civilian clothing on the following day, whilst attending briefs and completing the signing on process therefore a clean shirt / blouse will be required."

"You may be granted leave privileges during your initial training but free time is limited. You will be in uniform throughout the early part of training. In addition locker space is at a premium; so do not overdo the amount of civilian clothes you bring."

Edit: Sorry, WreckerL, didn't see your post.
  15. Makes sense.
  16. Yep Magda, all of the above. :D
  17. only civvies you'll wear at raleigh are your underpants.. other than that theres your PO's meal week 9/10 (whenever it is now)

    hope this helps, good luck!
