'Queen concerned that United Kingdom will be broken up'

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. How Does Alex Salmond know that The Queen (or the citizens of England & Wales) would want their Monarch to be the head of State of Scotland if 5 million Jocks voted in support of Salmond's obsession for independence ?????????????????

    The Telegraph:

'Queen concerned that United Kingdom will be broken up'
"The Queen has indicated her concern the United Kingdom will be broken up in the wake of Alex Salmond’s landslide election victory in Scotland, it was reported yesterday (sun
...............................'Mr Salmond, the SNP party leader, has previously moved to reassure the Royal Family and sceptical Scots by arguing that the Queen would remain head of state in Scotland following separation."
  2. The newspaper is obviously spot on. Its a good job that they had a reporter in the Saloon Bar of the Nags Head Picadilly to eavesdrop on her conversation with former PM Gordon Brown, who is dossing down in a nearby car park.
  3. So Liz is concerned about the UK splitting up eh? Hmmm, and this is from the person who stood by whilst allowing Tony Bliar to create the Scottish Parliament which is the thin edge of the wedge towards Scottish Independance and also allowed the UK to be taken over by the EU without so much as a whimper.

    Sorry luv, crocodile tears, fail.
  4. That's how a Constitutional Monarchy works in a democratic society:

As was said by John Sergeant on the Marr Show yesterday, it is a bit of a non-story. What would have been a story is if the Queen was not bothered by the potential break up of the UK!
  6. Dumbshit post Flymo. I've seen better from you :brave:
  7. Sorry Diesel, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

PS, have a chat with the Carat people over there in China as the wife is still waiting for her 40th birthday pressy to arrive.
    Disregard, ring arrived this morning.

  8. The Queen has a definite interest in Scotland remaining part of the Union. She has a couple of holiday homes there and the last thing she needs is the Jocks going all Republican and requisitioning her property.
  9. Even if Scotland became independent (which would be silly, economically and the rest), I'm not sure Crown Estate could be requisitioned!
  10. Perhaps the Scottish could buy them off Liz by using the money that they are hoping to get from the EU?
  11. **** we aint gonna fight the haggyban now are we?
  12. The newspapers doing the usual headline playaway.

Scotland is part of the Uk --end of dit .

Queen Liz is head of state the westminster parliament rules . Salmond and his devolved parliament is toothless unless
    Westminster votes them more powers.

Last time the scots were ''independant '' they ended up bankrupt and the Westminster Parliament paid the Scots
parliament members to step down and dissolve . Apart from that the scots can't bankroll themselves anyway --money from
the rest of the Uk is given to Scotland as their share of the UK budget as agreed and voted by Westminster !

I am not going to go over old ground (much) but your argument is tired and wrong.

Like many south of the Border who claim that Scotland survives purely from money allocated by Whitehall forget that Scotland sends the money there in the first place.

Secondly, if there is such a call for the UK to remain as it is, why are there more calls for Scottish independence from England than Scotland?

At the moment, IMHO, Westminster parliament is a very confused place. While MPs actually believe they are running the UK from the HoC, the reality is that the other countries have devolved assemblies/parliaments; England does not know really what is going on. We now have a system where MPs are trying to do two jobs : running UK plc and also running the off-shoot England. That job should be split as decisions which are being made to fix/manage English issues are being seen as UK wide fixes. MPs think they are running the whole of UK when in fact they are merely running England, with a few issues that the PM allows parliament to decide on which are actually UK issues being discussed.

AG you may find that Greenie is further north than you

Do you have any references to the money thing....I'm not convinced

England would save vast amounts of money if the Scots had full independance

Its time for only Englands MP's to vote on purely English matters
  15. AG is of course correct when he says that money is sent from Scotland to the Treasury. It is then counted and sent back plus a few more billion by way of...errr shall we say a bonus for the Scots to run their devolved government.
The reason why many of the English would like to see the Scots and for that matter the Welsh go independant is that anomalies have emerged whereby it seems the extra money available to be spent per capita is viewed as unfair seeing as we are all paying the same tax.
  16. I think Mr Salmond is doing a grand job in Scotland--or his party is . However its all happening with UK money .
I think his hopeful out come would be a Scottish seat in the EU Parliament and go for the big time .Then the Scots could maybe claim
more subsidies .Jobs for more pollies doing FA
At the moment there is a problem with Scots and English law differences especially now the Human Rights seem to be the topic for the year.
I think that the biggest gain would be for the English Parliament--no Scots MP's ! At the moment its all jobs for the boys.
SMP's ,Westminster MP's and we still have a Scottish Office with Westminster doing paymaster.
