Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I believe that all government contracts, as we are in the EU, have to be offered EU wide. The lowest bidder if it can fulfil the contract criteria gets the business.
The aircraft are needed now, so the powers that be shouldget their fingers out. and get the aircraft refurbished.
Ideally, they should be looking for a new replacement, but that doesnt l look likely.
Iwonder what would happen in France ??
  2. I would have thought that the Pumas were within the capability of DARA Fleetlands?
  3. Gah, we need the Puma's, and if we refurbish the damn Sea Kings it gives the govt ANOTHER excuse to hold onto them and use them until the end of time!

A tricky bit of legislation and I'll admit I'm only up to speed with it where it applies to my industry but I'm fairly sure that defence equipment procurement (rather than works or supplies) is excluded in schedule 5.

  5. Many moons ago the Roumanians built, under licence, BAC 1-11s tough but extremely noisy and built to last aircraft.
How many survive I have no idea but never remember any complaints.
