Still dont understand why the Navy has people that dont go to sea,any job ashore can be done at sea(except grave digging etc)

The RNR has a number of roles which are designated as "non-regular sea-goer", including MTO. It doesn't mean that the specialisation will never go to sea. One of the distinctions that is sometimes drawn is that these specialisations will not occupy ships company roles - they are augmentees only, just like embarked forces. Why have this distinction? Well it kees up out of the Watch & Station Bill and NBCD organisation for a start! Funnily enough CIS is also designated in this category, yet for the next few years at least, its primary task will be to suppliy communicators to the Fleet!

We had something like that at work a few months ago. It caused an uproar amongst junior staff. The staff at the gates were told to check the IDs of all junior staff but not senior staff. Ditto searches.

Dunno who you work for, but how can senior staff achieve a position of seniority if they are too stupid to realise that a bomb could be planted in their car/possessions without their knowledge?

If you knew where I worked, you'd be astonished! Then again, given all the recent bad publicity about our lax security, you probably wouldn't be. You'd just smile!

Bad Beer, she was well out of order, I hate it when people ignore even basic security precautions that have to be endured, it wasn't like you were suggesting she was strip searched!

I remember being told to FO by a person acting suspiciously once (in the late 80s), when I politely inquired after what she were doing. She kept looking out of a window in a furtive manner. She was in that corridor for over an hour during a security alert! I reported the matter to our Security Staff. Nothing happened. It turned out the suspect was an MP!

If you are not sure the sea is the big, blue wobbly stuff

I know what the sea is! I grew up in Plymouth, live in Portsmouth. It is the crinkly stuff full of seaweed and little fishes like nemo. However the think referred to the fact that it is 8 weeks before I go away and I do not know exactly what I am doing. Which is of course typical RNR!

I think one of the worst parts of the whole experience was how others around were looking embarrassed about the whole situation. I know that the most likely scenario was that the lady in question was most likely to be coming back from a trip abroad but the fact is that such thoughtless actions waste police time as well. A month ago there was a suitcase left outside the building I work in. Because of its location the police had to be called in and a controlled explosion took place. It turned out that the bag belonged to an Italian tourist, I hope it was their first day of a long trip in England.

to bring this back to where it was before it got all personal.... :D
back thru the mists of time I was a security officer for the BBC...we had TB and his missus on site for an interview with all thier protective bods.....John Sergent (pol rep) bimbled onto site with no id. I got the line "don't you know who I am", reply "no sir, but I know what you are...sit down there and wait to be collected", :D :D got some praise for that and he now works for ITV (shame......)
