problems with joining

Hi guys

Was wondering if anybody could help me out with this one.

I'm an ex seaman specialist from the RN trying to join the RFA as an AB1B. I've filled in an online application and sent across my EDH, ST and various other certs. I have just heard back today from the Jago Rd office that because I haven't served on a merchant vessel with the last 3 years that I cannot be considered for a position as an AB1B. However I also cannot be considered to go in as SG2 as I've already had some Naval training. I find it very strange that somebody from say maersk could join but someone with 23 years of seamanship experience including RAS, towing, boat ops, harbour stations and god knows what else can't. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yep. They say that because I haven't had any sea time within the merch in the last 36 month that I can't be considered and that I couldn't join as an SG2.
I fail to see how somebody from any other merchant deck background could join without any RAS experience and go straight in as an AB1

If you've got your tickets then perhaps you need to go commercial for a while then try again if you want to join the RFA.

If you don't match what's on the RFA entry requirements then they won't have you.

I didn't have any tickets so I could do that.

Have you tried going commercial or were you banking on RFA?

On our current course we have a trainiee sg2 who is an ex RN seaman spec, so I think you must be confused.

I'd phone them, and clafiry what reasons you are being given to not being allowed to join as a SG2.
I've just spent the last 2 years on commercial vessels but in a security role. In all that time I saw 1 English person. Commercial firms like to hire from outside the UK as they can pay the crew less.
Bleeh, what they said was that they aren't currently recruiting for SG2, but i couldn't do that because I'd already done my training.
