Press release: PM meeting with Erna Solberg: 3 February 2016

Following the meeting a Downing Street spokesperson said:

Prime Minister David Cameron met Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg at Downing Street last night ahead of the Supporting Syria conference, which they are co-hosting today in London with Germany, Kuwait and the United Nations.

They spoke of their hope that the conference will see a record amount of giving to support Syria and the main host countries, and that it would see concrete action on creating jobs and increasing education opportunities for children.

The Prime Minister set out the work he has been doing to encourage EU leaders to agree a new trade relationship with Jordan and praised Prime Minister Solberg’s work in driving the efforts to get all children into education by 2017.

The 2 Prime Ministers then discussed the North Sea oil and gas industry and agreed that Norway and the UK should consider ways of working together to cut costs in production.

And they also discussed the Prime Minister’s work to win a renegotiated package for the UK in the European Union. Prime Minister Solberg said she supported the Prime Minister’s work to build a more flexible EU and to cut red tape. She also agreed with the Prime Minister that Norway’s position in the European Free Trade Area but outside the EU would not work for the UK.
