Press release: PM call with Sultan Qaboos of Oman, 3 April 2015

The Prime Minister spoke to Sultan Qaboos of Oman on Friday afternoon, following the recent agreement reached in Lausanne between the E3+3 and Iran, and thanked him for the key role he played at the beginning of the process. They agreed that a good deal had been reached which would block all routes to Iran creating a nuclear weapon and, alongside the agreement on inspections, would make the region and indeed the world a safer and more secure place. The Prime Minister and the Sultan noted that notwithstanding the outcome of the Iran talks, it was important to continue to seek solution to other difficult issues in the region including Yemen and Syria.


On the situation in Yemen, they agreed that a political solution was essential to finding a way towards a peaceful resolution. Both leaders agreed that it was important for all sides to engage in constructive dialogue and the Prime Minister expressed the UK’s readiness to help achieve this. The Prime Minister and Sultan finished by discussing the strong and enduring relationship between the UK and Oman and agreed to continue to work together, not only for the benefit of both countries but also for the peace and prosperity of the region.
