  1. Following the meeting, Philip Hammond said:

Jordan is one of the UK’s closest international allies so I was delighted to meet Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in my constituency today. Britain and Jordan work closely together on some of the most pressing challenges facing our countries, such as the fight against ISIL, and the Middle East Peace Process.

I welcomed the active role that Jordan has played in the fight against ISIL, as part of the international coalition. We discussed King Abdullah’s welcome initiative to organise a conference of Arab States to combat extremism. I applauded the bravery of the Jordanian Air Force and expressed our hope that the captured pilot Mu’ath Al Kasaasbeh is safely returned to his family and friends as soon as possible. The UK stands firmly with Jordan in the fight against extremism.

We also discussed the need for progress in the Middle East Peace Process and agreed that it is important for the parties to resume serious talks once the new Israeli Government is formed. Jordan will have a vital role to play in that process. We agreed that all sides must take steps to avoid escalating tensions.
