Press release: Minister praises role of military at Armed Forces Day

Wales Office Minister Guto Bebb will today (Saturday June 18) attend the North Wales Armed Forces Day being held at Bodelwyddan Castle, Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire.

The Minister will watch a performance by the Royal Welsh Band followed by the Drumhead Service.

Other activities include a military ‘village’ with vehicles and displays, an appearance by the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team and flypasts by Spitfire and Griffin aircraft.

Mr Bebb said

Welsh units and reservists have always served our country with distinction. This year, the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, is particularly poignant given the sacrifice of Welsh troops in that appalling fighting.

Today is our opportunity to thank our servicemen and women and acknowledge their contribution in conflicts throughout history and up to the present day. I hope everyone gets the chance to join in an Armed Forces Day event.

Secretary of State Alun Cairns will attend the South Wales Armed Forces Day event which is being held at Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields, Caerphilly, on June 25.
