Treadmills are boring to run on, but also i find easier for timed shortish distances like the 1.5 miles. Once you are on and at the correct speed to achieve a pass all you need to do is stay on and not hit the 'stop' button. When running outside you have to create your own momentum forward and keep to pace yourself. I improved my time by doing a variety of runs; 1 long one a week at a steady pace (6 miles or so), 1 interval session (best effort for 1 min, jog for 2 and repeat etc), and 1 on the treadmill, best 2.4km effort x 2. Mixed in with swimming and other fitness fun my time improved really fast, and i feel confident both on speed and endurance- a year or so ago i could barely run round the block, did a half marathon earlier this month though and it was fine. Walking also helps i reckon, i mean looooong walks and hill work.

Thought I'd get this back on topic. To run it under the 11.09 time given, set the treadmill to 13.7 KPH or higher. This is roughly 10.45 minutes, I was the same as you about sucking at running. I just spent every day on the treadmill after work with a combo of long distance and wind-sprints. Then a few times a week I'd do the run and the time would always drop by a few seconds. I ran mine in 10.02, and all you really need to do is set the pace on the treadmill to the time you'd like to complete the run in, and then stay on the damn thing. Simple really :)

Definitely! I don't know the exact sciences behind it all, but low intensity exercise mixed in with a high intensity weekly schedule will improve recovery times. Plus the dogs love it...

Seems doing rounds as WE on deployment keeps you fit . Must be climbing ladders for hours at 2 in the moring. Kid is on leave and just ran mile half in 11 minutes after no phys while on deployment . She was almost as amased as I was. Well actually I was amased to see her go out for a run in the first place.
