Potential Foundation Degree

On the RN website, the engineering branches say 'Potential to gain a Foundation Degree in Engineering'. Could anyone elaborate on what this entails and how the scheme works? Would you have to already have the right qualifications at A-Level or is it more 'in house', so to speak.

The Foundation Degree is awarded on successful completion of Petty Officers Qualifying Course. On the way to that you will have completed Phase 2 training and Leading Hands Qualifying Course which will give the underpinning knowledge required to complete the FD.
