What a shame! You're quite right Bob - this is where it all started for me way back in the 1960's, when a winch launch cost the equivalent of 13 pence (2/6d for those that remember!)

The reality here is we can’t continue to fund everything so we target stuff that has the highest value to us (not monetary) and footfall. PNGC membership is not likely to be that large in context with more popular activities so it was always an easier decision than something like the sailing centre, etc. It’s also probable their military membership has steadily declined in favour of civilian numbers since Daedalus ceased operations as a Naval Base. That said I would have thought an incremental increase in charges would be fairer to allow the club to work to generate higher membership rates, increase fees, fundraise or something else.
