Please help with Interview and Training information

I’m at interview stage for joining as a student mental health nurse. I’ve been told I need to know about current ships and operations - which I have researched. I also need to know about PVR and what it is and means especially in the first 4 weeks to 6 month. Can anybody help me with this please?
Lastly, I need to know what each week of basic training entails. I have an idea but a bit more information would be great!
Thank you

PVR is Premature Voluntary Release. After you sign on you have to do the first 4 weeks, after that you can PVR up to the 6 month mark, after 6 months you pay goes up and your stuck for at least 4.5 years (but varies from branch to branch) before you can put your notice in.

The PVR time is different for under 18's who have the option up until their 18th birthday.

If you PVR but then subsequently re-join you don't have the option second time round.

if you use the search function someone has posted the day by day and week by week programme on here.

Thanks wrecker. I’ve read a lot about what happens in the weeks of basic training on here since posting. It was PVR that wasn’t so clear so thanks for that.

Just to add once you request to PVR it takes a week or just under once you've been interviewed by your Divisinal Officer, the Personnel selection Officer and had a medical, you then go n front of the Training Commander who will ask some questions before approving the discharge.

It sounds like a lot of interviewing but the RN has invested a lot of money in you so they need to know you are genuine and not being bullied in to leaving or just going on a whim. The medical is just to make sure you're fully fit and not taking any injuries home with you, or if you are then notes can be sent to your GP.

It's all about checks and balances to make sure it's your choice and everything is above board.

If you are near a branch of W H Smith, have a look to see whether they have a copy of a newspaper called Navy News. You might be able to buy a single copy by ringing the paper too.

For some quick coverage of what is current, have a look at the short videos on the 60 second update thread.

Thank you everyone for your support on this thread. Single mum of 2 and I’ve passed my interview and on to the next stage of recruitment. Wish me luck! Trying to show my 2 boys you can do anything if you want it enough
