Pingat Jasa Malaysia

Badgeman
:?: Has anyone received this medal yet? It has been awarded to all UK servicemen who served in Singapore/Malaya from 1957 to 1966. For details visit the Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association website. (Search for "Pingat Jasa Malaysia") You have to apply for it.

according to the blurb on the back of intrepidus, they are now available from the awards mob in shrewsbury. 32 quid and you can have it. Of course, you cannot wear it if you are british, but you can have it.

For those of us who were there, and if you were not aware of it before you need to access:

www.fightforthePJM.org

or

www.nmbva.co.uk

Incidentally, when it is received, you may wear it, but it will not be officially approved - this is according to some CSs in the MoD/FCO and the so-called Honours Section of the Cabinet Office.

I hop e you are right comrade. We got a HM govt memo thru about it at work. I have got it in front of me:

HM queen as requested by Aussie & NZ govts, has given her consent for their citizens to accept & wear the medal. But British citizens AND next of kin may only recieve PJM, they must NOT wear it. Permission to wear the medal is withheld because it compromises the Imperial Honours System.

I hop you are right. It won't even cost the UK govt anything as the Malayasian govt has said it will supply all the medals at cost to itself.

Why pay £32, when it will be presented free by the Malaysian Government?

Those veterans who are entitled to this award should get it free, never mind the people who seek to make money out of our efforts, and sacrifices, abroad.

Regardless of what HM Government say, if and when I get mine, I will wear it with pride, in memory of those who served, and gave their lives, for Malaysia.

Borneo and the Malaysian problems were 40 odd years ago so its a good probable that not many servicemen who qualify for the medal are still serving.

Its a similar one to the Russian awards for the Russian convoys.
No they couldn't be worn .
What the ex service guys do is to have a separate row of medals for awards . Not wearing them means they can't be worn with the pusser issued Gen Service/campaign medals cluster.

Medals and pecking order is normally Bravery/special awards then campaign medals in the order they were won then decorations then LSGC medals. Long service medal always worn nearest your left arm!!

similar thing with the Russian Veterans medal awarded at the 40th anniversary of WW2. But they said they would wear it, because who was going to stop them? The medal police?

I think its a sad state of affairs when we have Servicemen that have put their lives on the line for the Country in the line of duty in Conflict areas and they are not allowed to wear an Award for service! The UK Govt should be ashamed that Countries that have expressed their thanks for these Servicemen by Striking medals for them ,then not allowing them to be worn with pride!
