  1. It is with great sadness I report the passing of CPO1 Matthew (Shane) Irvine, MMM, CD on 24 May 2016. Shane was an active member of the Submarine Association of Canada, a proud submariner and member of the RCN.

The Submarine Association will conduct a Crossing the Bar ceremony at a funeral service at 1pm on Thursday, June 2nd at the Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice ON (near Oshawa). Shane will be interred at the National Military Cemetery (Beechwood Cemetery) at 1pm on Tuesday June 7th.

Donations may be made in Shane’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Canada, Lung Association of Nova Scotia, Salvation Army, or the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care).

Shane’s obituary is available at the following link:http://canadianobituaries.com/durham/30121-matthew-irvine-may-24-2016.

Some of you ex submariners may have known Shane; he relieved me as Cox'n of HMCS Chicoutimi (ex HMS Upholder) during the latter part of reactivation at Barrow in 2004 and enjoyed many UK port visits (including Dolphin and Faslane) while serving in HMCS Onondaga, HMCS Ojibwa and HMCS Okanagan during his 35 year career.

    RIP shipmate.
