There’s an RNTM (temporary memorandum) about it, and I’m sure it’s been mentioned on here but I’ll be honest I couldn’t find anything just now when I searched. If you haven’t had an answer by Monday I’ll dig it out and put something up.

For rugby; most units will have a team and there is of course the RN Squad.

Same. If I can get onto MODNET before Monday, I will post excerpt from the RI/RNTM for Direct Entry PTI. As it’s new, it’s all a bit untested. The one thing I noticed, if you fail any parts and get ‘RTU’ you then become a Warfare Spec..

Apologies if you've already seen it but, if not, it explains the progression :
Yup i have seen this thanks just felt it didn't go into much detail of what you'd be doing or where you'd be doing it, and TBH a year doing something else dosent seem to be direct entry :)
Also farther down the page under professional training it states you will be learning to assist in surgery!!!.

From the other posts above that would be great thanks.

What about postings etc?

cheers

PTI's are on all ships, (Frigates and larger) plus all shore establishments, where you go is in the lap of the gods. Each draft (posting in pongospeak) is roughly 2 1/2 to 3 years.

My grandson is serving (phase 2 training) at HMS Sultan.
It’s at least fifteen years since I escorted three college students to take part in the Young Engineers Competition. In those days I was working part time for a college.
We enjoyed an excellent two days and we were billeted on a decommissioned warship; the students having their own quarters separate from the adults.
I’ve been telling my grandson the tale, especially about the warship; but he tells me there is no water nearby where such a warship could be berthed. He’s asked if anybody knows where it might have been and the name of vessel, unfortunately nobody knows.
So, I thought I’d check in here to see if some of you with memories like elephants can help.

15 years ago? Possibly the guided missile destroyer HMS Bristol, moored off Whale Island?

Edited to add link from RN web pages

Over the years there have been a few harbour trading ships, better memories than me may remember, I think Diamond & Russell, come to mind?

I seem to remember having to travel a short distance to Sultan from the warship which from memory wasn’t too far. It’s where it was berthed in distance from Sultan that has me puzzled. Not to worry, I shall check my map app to see where Whale Island is in proximity to HMS Sultan.

Across water, once you get to the waters edge, near Gosport, not far, by road, 4 or 5 miles, that's a guess 20 years since I have been there?

@Sumo: could well have been Whale Island.
I recall being invited to the bar after my evening meal where I chatted to lots of schoolteachers who had attended with their students. I was given a cabin with a bunk that tested my athletic skills. I tossed and turned all night as the noise of the air conditioning ( I think that’s what it was) kept me awake. After breakfast it was an all day competition with schools/colleges from all across the country. My party were looked after by a very smart, pleasant and intelligent rating who hailed from York. He really took care of us throughout our day. Unfortunately I was knackered due to lack of sleep.
During afternoon tea I ended up chatting to the Lady Mayoress for a while; after presentations we left Sultan with me faced with a 300 mile drive. Happy days.
Cheers!
PS: little did I realise then that my grandson who was then only a
6 year old, would all these years later, be training as an AET at Sultan.

The harbour training ships that @Sumo mentioned were at Priddy's Hard in Gosport, they were used by Sultan and Collingwood. It was Diamond and Russell when I went through.

Priddy's Hard is now the site of the Explosion museum

Having checked up on HMS Bristol’s antecedent’s, I have come to the conclusion that she must have been the ship I stayed on board and Whale Island must have been were she was berthed.
Thanks all, mystery solved.

I'm sure all new recruits now start on a Monday. There was something about this on here a couple of weeks ago.

My son, a dual UK/Aus national, applied from overseas in 18 May 2019. On 5 June he was informed by email from the Overseas Manager in London that his application for Warfare Officer (SM) had been received and that he had been allocated an Overseas Officer Careers Adviser to manage his application. On 3 July the latter requested some education documents which my son loaded up immediately. On 2 August my son sent an email to his nominated careers adviser with further education details in case they were needed. This got an "I am on leave until 5 Aug but will answer your email as soon as possible". On 29 October, having heard nothing, my son sent a further email asking confirmation that his application was still under consideration. This drew an automatic reply saying I am very busy with overseas applications and will reply to you as soon as possible. Nothing has been heard.

Is this usual? I am aware there is a backlog of overseas applications. But 5 months without a substantive response and non-reply to an email sent 3 months ago sounds extraordinary and wholly unreasonable.

What is the timeline for domestic applications?
