Operational tours for RNR

#1
Im looking at joining RNR Sherwood and wondered what operational tours are available to RNR personnel?
I understand approx 2 years of initial training is required 1st?
Im sure some tours are role specific so if anyone has knowledge or has toured with a specific role any info would be appreciated.
If i ask to be mobilised is it possible for this to be hidden from my employer and therefore look like ive been given compulsary mobilisation? (I know this is poss with TA).
Pls PM me with any sensitive sh*t.
All responses sensible and childish pls.
Cheers lads and lasses.

Good question. The assumption is its not if, but when, you'll be asked to mobilise. Assume that within the first 5 years, the opportunity will present itself, but don't quote me on that!

In terms of what you do, well you need to allow up to 9 months out, for pre-deployment training, deployment and post tour leave, and during this time, your job is protected by law. Your employer can appeal against this, and may keep you, but he can get help with expenses to hire replacement staff.

Each role varies depending on branch, so it depends what you want to do. Force protection guys spend time at sea ensuring safety of warships and other vessels through force protection, other guys do logistical work, or specialist tasks depending on what they are trained in.

Taylor, there are different tours and vastly different chances of "being called up" depending on which branch you join. If you'd like to PM me, I can give you accurate information.

Don't PM him - the RN(R) exists on half-truths, buzzes, naafi queue gossip and made up stuff; learning what's really going on rather takes the fun out of it!!!

When PT says that your job is protected by law what he actually means is that your employer cannot sack you for beong in the RNR. However they may find something else to sack you for if they think that the RNR is becoming a pain in their ass! :D
