On the sick....again....

well one thing I'm not going to do is see a chiropractor, fair play to anyone that does and great if it helps them. I saw one a few years ago, didn't work for me, several £40 visits later I canned it and lay on a bag of frozen peas instead.

Have the offer of a sports massage (as opposed to the usual one you pay for) whilst at a barbie on Saturday so, as long as I can keep the rabid dog known as NZB away from the young lady in question it should all be good. Been signed off until the 16th so lots of relaxing beers and moderate back movement leading up to full on break dancing come the end of next week is looking good.

Feel a bit of a twat though, I dont fancy lazing around but also dont want to strut about pulling "fcuk that hurts" faces when it doesn't....

Xrays show bone only - so if you haven't fallen and incurred significant trauma then that won't show anything, but you could get testicular cancer from the radiation.

MRI only shows significant disc problems, so if it gets better then you don't need that either.

Why the obsession with imaging back pain?!

Did it make you hard,.....and want to hang out with fish.
Or did you go all sloppy? penultimate question, are you now green, and is it true that you and NBN are like peas in a pod and both getting a bit stringy.
I only ask as being up north we tend to get a Birds Eye view of things. 8O  :D

As this is Diamond Lil's, an establishment I have never frequented before and I do not know how to conduct myself in this location i will try to remain courteous and polite to all.

Am new here, but saw on Arrse a little box with this subject highlighted,
so thought I would add my thoughts on lower back pain.

I have no med training whatsoever but have suffered from LBP for 20 years or so, had two discectomies (or whatever the correct medical term and spelling is) and tried all of the suggested treatments discussed on here so far. Also my spouse has had similar problems over the past 10 years and has recently had a lumbar fusion op.

My advice, treat your back with care, ensure your posture is good, when you pick things up think before you bend and do it correctly, take whatever drugs the doc gives you, pain relief is essential, if you are in pain your back never relaxes and whatever damage be it disc or bone or muscle never has time to repair. Listen to and follow the physio's advice, build core strength if you have not already got it, loose weight if necessary
you may have to change your whole lifestyle but it is worth it rather than putting up with the intense pain that is the alternative.

All is not lost however, you can recover completely even if you have to have surgery, I do as much now as I did years ago.

X-rays CT scans and MRI scans all have their place in the diagnosis of the problem, get them done as soon as possible as they are the only way determining the exact treatment required. My spouse had had pain in her hip for years, had regular physio sessions, visited chiropractors and several different doctors who issued various medicines etc all thought they could solve the problem none could. It was only after the full range of scans that the Professor of Orthopedic medicine she was seeing could fully diagnose the problem, complete collapse of an intevertabral disc, hence the fusion operation. Since the op 6 months ago the pain has gone and she is back going to the gym every morning.

Sorry for such a download, but having put up with the abuse from other over this sort of pain thought you might like to know it can be overcome.

And finally you do not have to give up sex, you just have to become more ingenious, a bit like being back in your youth.

:naka: Medically retired from the Prison Service due to severe spinal arthritis and sciatica. :( Swimming and cycling and cortisone injections helped me a lot. : Also basic stretching exercises. :blob:

My sympathies Blobs, I have been off since tuesday, lower back pain, muscle spasms according to the medic, pain killers prescribed (well already have them for my knee but I was nearly out so she renewed it - co codamol 30/500), brufen a no no as I have been suffering from a lot of indigestion lately so she decided to err on the side of caution.

How it happened, I had loaded up a couple of bags of logs - no problem, moved three sacks of coal into the coal house - no problem, filled the coal scuttle by means of tipping a 50kg sack into it, - no problem, go to pick up the scuttle - OH MY FCUKING GOD - absolute agony, barely able to walk

Bless you, back pain is agony.

Acupuncture for a couple of sessions will help.

Yoga, lay on your belly and gently push up, keeping elbows bent (important) and eyes to ceiling....gently leaning into the pain goes against the grain but the best thing. Then down.Repeat for 5.
Gently (move slowly), turn onto your back, bring both legs over your head and keep upper body relaxed, try to touch your toes to the floor....it's wonderfully relaxing .

Also, crunches, lay on your back, feet at 90 degrees, toes flat ( towards you), gently curl up and hold.Squeeze very small, slow movements, holding your belly in, works all the deep muscles. Start off with 100 and take from there.

Great you are keeping mobile, the worst thing for a bad back is to seize up.

Hope you feel better soon.

Meanie, I was just wondering if I used my hands to push my lower back a bit forward whilst doing this...

"Gently (move slowly), turn onto your back, bring both legs over your head and keep upper body relaxed, try to touch your toes to the floor....it's wonderfully relaxing ."

I could achieve self fellatio?
